The salt pans and sandy areas of San Pedro del Pinatar constitute a Protected Natural Area of the Region of Murcia. It is a wetland of great importance, located between the Mar Menor and the Mediterranean Sea. Numerous species of birds nest there, such as flamingos, and you can find plant species very characteristic of salt areas. In addition, it is an area in which salt activity, fishing, and tourism are combined in a sustainable way.
We recommend making the route of this natural space along the path “Las Encañizadas” (download pdf – Salinas de San Pedro), about 12 km long. During the journey, which can be done by bicycle or walking, you can stop to observe the birds from the observatories, take a refreshing swim in the Mediterranean Sea, visit the salt farm or have a snack at the port. It will be a journey between two seas very comfortable.
* We invite visitors to respect the rules of the natural park, as well as keep the space clean.
