Salt mines of San Pedro

The salt flats and sandbanks of San Pedro del Pinatar constitute a Protected Natural Area of the Region of Murcia. It is a wetland of great importance, located between the Mar Menor and the Mediterranean Sea. Numerous species of birds nest there, such as flamingos, and plant species very characteristic of salty areas can be found. In addition, it is an area where salt mining, fishing and tourism are sustainably combined.

We recommend taking the tour of this natural space along the “Las Encañizadas” trail (download pdf – salinas de san pedro), which is about 12 km long. During the journey, which can be done by bicycle or on foot, you can stop to observe the birds from the observatories, take a refreshing dip in the Mediterranean Sea, visit the salt mine or have a snack at the port. It will be a very comfortable journey between two seas.

*We invite visitors to respect the rules of the natural park, as well as to keep the space clean.
